Small Success Sunday’s

You didn’t manage to get out of bed today….it’s completely okay you can try again tomorrow! You know that tomorrow is a whole new chance to start again. The best part about tomorrow is you are the one that controls the day. I know what’s it’s like to have to lay there and convince yourself to get up and start your day. Here is five things I try to do to help me start my day off right.

Take a shower….

You read that right don’t take a bath when you are anxious try taking a shower. I found sitting in a bath while it is enjoyable it also gives me time to think and let my mind wander. Take a shower and that way you focus on washing your hair, body and don’t forget behind the ears! You focus on shaving or focusing on the way the water temperature is. You don’t have as much down time as you do in a bath.

Go for a walk, run, bike ride…..

Get outside! Smell the fresh air, feel the sun on your skin. I mean it, getting outside for a walk around the neighborhood looking at Nancy’s horrible flower arrangements and yard decorations always puts me in a better mood. It always helps to get out and be active, put some earphones in and listen to music, something upbeat. Getting outside and just walking down the block will help you get yourself out of your house will change your mood.

Take out the trash…..

Simple, take out the trash, it will help you feel accomplished, and if it’s like myself lead to more and more small things getting done around the house. Doing one small chore will lead to doing something else and then before you know it your whole kitchen is cleaned. Doing small things keeps your hands moving and your mind focused on something besides what happened on Monday that you have worries over. Doing small things around the house helps you all and all feel better about your productivity and in the long run hopefully help you forget about things.

Invite a friend over…..

This one for me is a difficult one to start but once I’ve done it I am thankful I did. Sometimes I am just not in a mood to deal with people, but we all have that one person we can call and say hey come over and let’s watch movies! Brining someone in that is having a good day and makes you laugh brings your mood up, they will help you forget. Pop some popcorn, put in a hilarious movie or a movie you two can quote the whole movie and forget about things for a while. Just be in the moment.

Cook breakfast, lunch or dinner

Cook yourself a meal, cook your favorite meal, cook a random recipe online that you have found that looks delicious. Cooking helps me focus on the moment, it helps with keeping my mind off what I’m worried about. I enjoy learning new ways to cook or bake, the challenge of learning something new or making something new always makes me feel accomplished. Plus you get the benefits of your hard work and get to eat what you’ve been making for the past hour.

These are just some of the ways I help fight off anxiety and I hope they will help you! If you have your own ways of fighting off anxiety or depression and help you feel better I’d love to hear them. We all need small ways to help us on days we are feeling like not doing anything. Remember it’s okay not to be okay! We have tomorrow’s for a reason to give us a fresh start and a new page to write.
